Mark
3:13 says, “…he [Jesus] called to him
those he wanted and
they came to him.”
Today,
we are going to discover what it was like when the first disciples came to
Jesus. What were the implications for
them? What are the implications for us
in community?
Called to
Follow Jesus
John
1:39 (Andrew and most likely John)
“So they went and saw
where he was staying, and spent the day with him. It was about the tenth hour.”
Matthew
4:18-22; Mark 1:14-20 (Peter, Andrew, James, and John)
“At
once they left their nets and followed him.”
“Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their
father and
followed him.”
Luke
5:11 (Peter, Andrew, James, and John)
“So they pulled their
boats up on the shore, left everything and followed him.”
After some exposure to
Jesus, the disciples made a decisive,
all-inclusive, costly commitment to follow Him!
Called to Follow
Jesus Together
Hebrews
10:25, “Let us not give up meeting
together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one
another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
John 17:23, “May they [we]
be brought to complete unity to let the world know you sent me.”
Ephesians
4:2-3, “Be completely humble; be patient,
bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace.”
