Warning:  There are false “followers”

They are evidence of “the last hour” and “antichrist.”

They are known by their denial that Jesus is fully God and fully man.

They are known by their failure to persevere with the faithful.

Encouragement:  “But you…” are true followers

True followers have an anointing from God.

True followers know and confess the truth that Jesus is the Christ.

How to live as a true follower of Jesus Christ:

Stay true to the truth you received (“remain”).

Continue in the fellowship with God’s people.

Live every day in relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – and confident in the promise of eternal life.

Going deeper with the Word

1.  Is there a spirit of “antichrist” at work today?

2.  Why is it so important that true believers “remain with” other true believers?

3.  How would you explain the “anointing” every true Christian has?

4.  (Looking ahead…) What do the next verses (2:28-3:3) say are the great privileges and future blessings given to true believers?
