Cedar Mill Bible Church is seeking a Pastor of Worship and Music in a multi-generational church in Portland, Oregon.
The successful candidate will have these qualifications:
- Possess a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and an authentic relationship with him.
- First and foremost be a worshipper, and be able to lead others with passion and joy. Leads worship by worshipping.
- Possess a Shepherd’s heart, serving as a pastor to the people, yet also possessing the gifts needed to call people to respond to the Lord.
- Possess those qualities for leadership found in Scripture, including those for an elder.
- An artist; one who can understand and relate to other artists both within CMBC and in the community.
The successful candidate will have these competencies:
- Able to instill the principles of worship, and move people toward a lifestyle of worship.
- Leads with a collaborative leadership style.
- A team builder, able to recruit and equip multiple teams and leaders.
- Strong people and relational skills.
- Able to utilize culturally relevant music styles that help lead people into participatory and corporate worship.
- Works well in a team setting with church staff, pastors and elders.
- A “platform presence” that connects with a broad range of people and brings energy to our corporate gatherings.
- A good student of culture and its implications for the church; an understanding of the “postmodern” and “emerging” cultures.
- Able to provide missional leadership and cast vision as part of the pastoral team.
- Preferred but not required: experience in church planting, able to preach as needed.
The successful candidate will have this experience/skill set:
- At least 3 years experience leading worship.
- Proficient music reading, vocal, and instrumental (including keyboard or guitar) skills
- Able to lead, organize and delegate various aspects of music ministry including ensembles and worship bands.
- Knowledgeable about copyright laws.
The successful candidate will have these responsibilities:
- Work with the teaching team to plan, lead and oversee the flow of the worship services.
- Establish and develop multiple worship teams/leaders to serve throughout the church.
- Oversee rehearsals.
- Develop and oversee leadership for audio, visual, and tape ministry teams.
- Oversee leadership for developing and including the arts in worship/ministry.
- Manage the overall environment and appearance of the worship center.
- Other pastoral responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Pastor.
