Men,
What does it take to amaze you?
I was thinking today about a show my wife Lin and I
attended on vacation last year in Phoenix. We had won
some tickets to see the popular illusionist David
Copperfield. The show was entertaining, but as it was
concluding, I realized how much it takes to amaze me
these days. I've become a tougher audience since the
day I first saw a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat.
On this particular day, the National Day of Prayer, I
am questioning myself. Am I still amazed about the
wonder of being able to communicate with God? I
confess I have sometimes looked at prayer as a duty or
a task that must be checked off on my daily list of
chores. But that is a woeful approach to it. The
creator of this universe, the Lord who spoke a word
and formed the earth and all life, the savior of my
soul, wants me to talk with Him, actually listens to
what I have to say, and beyond that, answers me.
If you abide in me and my words abide in you,
you shall ask what you will and it shall be done to
you. (John 15:7)
And even more than that, how amazing is it that God is
blessed when we pray. Here's how our communication
with Him is described in Revelations 5.
Golden bowls full of incense, which are the
prayers of the saints (Rev. 5:8)
From our place of lowliness, our place of brokenness,
the Lord takes the prayers of his followers, like he
does with our sinful lives and makes them acceptable,
makes them presentable to a Holy God. Now that is
amazing.
As a parent, would you want your children to rarely
speak to you, or regard communication with you as a
chore? God loves to hear from us. He welcomes it.
Let's please our heavenly father. Let's pray.
Ron
Speaking of prayer, would you ask the Lord about your
involvement in a couple of areas.
1)
We need help on the parking team for the upcoming
changes on June 1. We need a rotating team of 20 men.
Please email me back about this or call JD Russell
503-572-0016.
2)
We need men to volunteer to help on Saturday June 21
for Kid Fest. Children of single parent homes really
gravitate toward men on this day. Please call the
church office and ask for Jenny Bernick or John
Hamilton.
3) Will you join us for prayer this Sunday in the
Prayer Room at 10:35 a.m.?
