Men,

Have you ever thought you were a model builder?

I'm not talking about gluing and painting a plastic replica of a car or plane together, I'm talking about being someone who builds his life to model Jesus. If we are to model him effectively we need to build on one of his key foundations. Discipleship. Simply put, discipleship is being a part of leading another to maturity in Christ. In Jesus model with his disciples it means being part of a band of brothers. Being part of a community of fellow believers who share their lives and their walk with the Lord as a team.

I see the Lord building this among us in so many ways and you are a big part of that. Do you sense it? More and more of you are reaching out, opening up, getting more involved, getting more transparent. One key in all of this is part of what's involved in our new focus starting June 1 at CMBC. It's moving us from a church that is purely academic to a church that is expanding by actively pursuing Christ together. David Murrow addresses this in his book, "Why Men Hate Going to Church". In in he writes, "We cannot expect men to come to maturity in Christ in a classroom environment. Although they can help, these academic exercises cannot penetrate to the hidden places in a man's heart. But discipleship can, because it's teaching by example. Men are changed by what they experience, not necessarily by what they are told."

And that's the model Jesus gave us isn't it? He didn't just teach his disciples, he challenged them and through it they grew. That's the model building I believe you and I want to be apart of at CMBC. That's the model building I sense the Lord starting among us. We are men who want to challenge and be challenged by the Lord and each other.

Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)

Let's be good model builders.

Ron

Many of you at the men's breakfast asked me to pass along the three nuggets our speaker Al Egg shared with us. Here they are:

1) Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God
2) God will never create a life for you that makes Him unnecessary
3) Enjoy what is and do not dwell on what is not.

Let's return to our habit of praying together on Sunday at 10:35 a.m. in the Prayer Room.
