Men,

How do you react when you hear a Christian man has fallen?

Just this week I found out about a respected local Christian man who's life has just been shattered by giving in to temptation. He had built a solid reputation around town, was a gifted speaker and counselor. He'd developed a service our community depended on for those in crisis situations. But he gave in to the lure of another woman and was caught in the trap of infidelity. Now his Christian company has been closed, his reputation has been ruined and his family is suffering. Another tragic story of the enemy taking down a prominent Christian man.

So what's your reaction?

I hope you aren't thinking, well that could never happen to me. The worst reaction we could have to a situation like this is one of self confidence. If it can happen to a man like the one I just described, if it could happen to King David, it could happen to you or me. So what is our best reaction? For starters, how about humility and a review of our defense plan with the Lord.

The Lord says He will never allow more temptation than we can handle, but we have to do our part. We need to take action.

1) When temptation comes ask Jesus for help.

Call on me in times of trouble and I will rescue you, and you will honor me says the Lord (Psalm 50:15)

2) Recognize that Satan will attack our areas of weakness, so be prepared.

Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping (I Peter 5:8)

3) Actively choose to not look at or think about dangerous things. Look away when seductive images come at you. Don't let your thoughts linger on inappropriate actions or images.

Turn my eyes away from worthless things (Psalm 119:37)

Be careful how you think, your mind is shaped by your thoughts (Proverbs 4:23)

Let's agree to abide in the Lord, choose lives of purity and look out for each other. We will be tempted and the enemy would be pleased if he could take another one of us down. Our Lord would be even more pleased to see one of his men stand strong in His name and resist. Determine to be that man.

Ron

See you Sunday in the prayer room at 10:35 a.m. For those of you who were there last Sunday. How are things going with the men's names you mentioned?
